Heaven is a mystery, so anything Mary’s assumption can tell us about it is a good thing. After all, if we want to go to heaven it’s good to know as much as we can about it. That’s why the Assumption should be taken seriously. It’s a glimpse into the mystery that awaits us, that will be fulfilled if we stay in loving relationship with God. Fr. Mark-Mary compares Mary’s reuniting with Jesus in heaven to a soldier being reunited with his family after battle. The Solemnity of the Assumption offers a foretaste of our reunion with God. No wonder the Church makes this day a holy day of obligation. Maybe we should take a closer look at what God is telling us through Mary’s assumption.
